the story behind the story
Several years ago, I was going through a very difficult time. Many of the dreams I had for my life were broken leaving me feeling devastated. I could not figure out where God was through this time and what He was doing with my life. One afternoon as I was talking with God about it all, I saw a vision of a surgeon. The surgeon was cutting the patient open and performing the needed procedure to restore the patient to wholeness. Of course, all of this was done not to kill the patient, but to save the patient’s life, not to hurt but to cure. I realized in that moment that God, like the surgeon, had used this deeply painful season not to harm me, but to heal me.
Gratitude overwhelmed me and from that place of worship the words of this poem began flowing out of me. Line after line came to me as the story of The Lowly Stable took shape. As I read back over it, I was in awe that the Lord would use my sorrow to birth a story that would impact others with the hope of Jesus. It was His gift to me in a challenging season and I pass it along to you and your family in whatever season you find yourselves. I pray that you will experience His presence on the pages of this book and that you will know God’s goodness, healing and salvation this Christmas. Shalom.
“And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.” -Revelation 21:3
