If these walls could talk…

The Lowly Stable is the telling of the Nativity story from the perspective of the stable. The stable feels badly about himself, because he is in such disrepair: leaky roof, dirty floor, broken wooden beams. While dreaming about a total rehab, his thoughts are interrupted by the sight of a road-weary couple in desperate need of a place to spend the night. When he notices that the young girl Mary is with child and due any minute, he eagerly offers them lodging and exclaims, “Here in the back there’s a place within me!” The tattered old stable finds the transformation he was longing for as Jesus is born in him. The stable realizes that he will never be the same as he gives his side of the story and shares with young and old the true meaning of Christmas. With vibrant illustrations and tight rhyming meter, the stable moves from the background of history to come alive as a main character in the Nativity account.
